Scottish guitarist and singer Alasdair Roberts will bring traditional and original songs with Mairi Morrison and Pete Johnston, while in NS recording versions of Scottish folk songs collected by archivist Helen Creighton. Roberts hails from Scottish folk lineage, as the son of former folk guitarist (and musical partner of Dougie MacLean) Alan Roberts. Alisdair Roberts is known for his frequent collaborations with other musicians and writers, as well as for being a member of the folk supergroup The Furrow Collective. He has also collaborated with Will Oldham (aka Bonnie "Prince" Billie), and released albums on the US Drag Records label.

This is the first official MIC event in the Ross Creek Annex, so we're celebrating Canning with a couple of locals to start things off. Kim Barlow doesn't perform much lately, as she's putting more energy into running Music In Communities. This is a chance to hear some of her secret new songs, and some collaborating with Chris Robison, one of the best eccentric songwriters around.

This show will be preceded by a Gaelic Songs & Conversation Workshop with Mairi Morrison: 'Come and Learn a Gaelic Song' A friendly and fun session to learn some traditional Scottish Gaelic songs. Màiri will offer some pronunciation tips and translations for the songs and there is no previous singing experience or Gaelic required. Come along and join us for some singing and a bit of craic! Màiri Morrison, a singer and actress, is a native Scottish Gaelic speaker from the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. She was immersed in Gaelic, music and culture from a young age, collaborating and performing with many acclaimed musicians over the years, primarily in Gaelic, and is shortly due to release her first solo album. 3PM at the Annex, $15 - or $30 for workshop and concert - email info@musicincommunity to register
